Melodis - The newer iPhone 3G S has a voice dialing feature. If you have an iPhone 3G then
Melodis is a must have. This free application allows you to dial any number in your contacts
address book by using your voice. There’s no training involved. It simply finds the contact
phonetically and dials the number for you.
iTranslate - With this nifty application you can translate virtually any language to, well, virtually
any other language. So if you need to translate that phrase in Armenian to, say, Croatian, then
you’re in luck. And the price tag is great (free).
Shazam - Sometimes an iPhone application comes along and affirms that there are people out
there with an abundant supply of imagination. Here’s the scenario: Say you’re in your car and a
great song is playing on the radio. You start up Shazam and ask it to “tag” the song. The program
will “listen” to the song and figure out the name of the song, the artist, and where you can
purchase the song on iTunes. Moreover, Shazam will direct you to the YouTube video featuring
the song and other amazing things.
Flixster – With this free application, you can locate any movie theater in your area (using the
iPhone’s Location Services) and display the movies that are playing and their show times. You can
also read movie synopses, view trailers and read reviews.
Labyrinth LE – This simple game is based on those old wooden labyrinth games with the metal
ball that we always got on Christmas. It’s so realistic that it’s easy to forget that you’re playing a
virtual game. Free LE version.
Zillow – Linked to the popular real estate web site, consumers can locate , map and examine real
estate listings in their area. Property specs and photos are also available.
Pandora – This popular application links to internet radio stations. You specify your favorite artist
and the program will go out to the internet looking for any songs being played by that artist. Over
time, Pandora will “learn” your music tastes based on your chosen artists and offer songs of the
same style.
Army Knife – Cost: $0.99. This application combines some tools, 9 in all. These include a
carpenters level, unit converter, tape measure, heart beat monitor, flashlight and more.
Fluid – Fluid gives you an ultra-realistic vision of the surface of a pond or brook. You can run
your finger through the water and splash the surface. Optional soothing music plays in the
background. It’s surprisingly soothing. Take a break during the day and indulge yourself with this
free application.
Ocarina – This amazing application converts your iPhone into a real flute that you can play. Just
blow into the microphone of the iPhone to create the haunting sound and manipulate the “holes”
on the screen to create melodies. You can even listen to other Ocarina players around the world!

KHON – Yes! There’s a free application linked to Hawaii’s own KHON TV. Get the local and
national news, sports, weather, entertainment and even view video webcasts. Did I mention it was
free?
NY Times – Get the national news from the New York Times. Also read about politics, technology,
science, health, etc. Cost: Free.
Bump – This amazing program allows you to exchange your contact information with other iPhone
owners by merely grasping the iPhone and bumping your fists together. Don’t ask me how it
works, it just does. Cost: Free.
